Oh, the many woes of book blogging! Books are not always the easiest subjects to photograph, especially when you have several or many to include. It seems that at least one of them will "act up", and refuse to cooperate in some manner. A book cover won't stay flat, or there may be distracting shadows in the photo. In spite of these difficulties, though, I brought my newest "mailbox" books outside and photographed them with my phone. Wisely, my new books realized that this was their chance to make a good first impression, and cooperated. ;)
I received Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple (of Arrested Development fame!) from the author's agent, Anna. I won Charlie: A Love Story by Barbara Lampert from Naida's blog, the bookworm. The Color of Tea by Hannah Tunnicliffe arrived from the publisher for an upcoming TLC book tour, and In a Witch's Wardrobe by Juliet Blackwell is a mystery I won recently from Harvee's blog, Book Dilettante. Last and certainly not least, I received The Book of Mormon Girl: A Memoir of an American Faith by Joanna Brooks from her agent, Jill; I'm planning to interview this author soon.
Mailbox Monday, one of my favorite memes, continues to be on tour, and has been hosted this month by Mrs. Q, Book Addict. What books arrived in your mailbox recently, or from elsewhere?
I haven't posted (or read) much this month, because I just had LASIK eye surgery and felt my eyes needed a break, but I did want to showcase some of the new books I've gotten this summer. And remember that today's the last day to enter my international giveaway for a $25 Amazon gift card, if you haven't already done so!
That's a great shot, I agree, books don't always cooperate for photos...lol. Outside is a nice place to get a good pic of them.
ReplyDeletehappy reading :) Those all look good.
I hope your eyes are feeling better!
You had a wonderful week in books. They all look good. I requested a copy of Where'd You Go, Bernadette. It sounds like a the quirky type of book that I enjoy.
ReplyDeleteYou need to try a few audiobooks while your eyes rest up. There are some good choices available with some excellent narrators.
I got a couple of these too, and am glad that we will both be reading them. Very nice shot of your mailbox presents!
ReplyDeleteHeard of a few of these, enjoy!

The Color of Tea sounds good...just my cup of tea, so to speak :)
ReplyDeleteI hope your eyes are recovering and you will enjoy seeing so much better. The picture of the books is lovely. I know what you mean about the lighting and such. I'm not a photographer but I try to do the best I can when taking pictures. I read "Charlie" a month or two ago. I liked it, but then I am a dog lover, so I almost always like books about dogs. I haven't heard of the other ones.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for reviews of the new Maria Semple book! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteOops, pressed enter before I remembered to say I hope your Lasik surgery is a complete success! I've worn glasses my whole life and am too afraid to have the procedure. My kids all wear contacts. So, you're my hero, lol.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you books all behaved! I'm really looking forward to The Book of Mormon Girl. Keep us updated on your Lasik surgery.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo op for those books! I got the Bernadette book last week and I'm looking forward to it. Thanks for visiting my blog, and enjoy your books.
ReplyDeleteI hate when the covers go all wonky! These all look great; hope you love them!
ReplyDeleteGreat mailbox! Enjoy your books! I hope you're feeling better!
ReplyDeleteOh, great mailbox! The Colour of Tee is on my wishlist, it looks good. Enjoy your new books!
ReplyDeleteEager to find out more about The Color of Tea. Hope you enjoy it and the rest of the books!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have some good books-I want to read The Colour of Tea-just because of the cover.
ReplyDeleteAll of those books look lovely! Especially Charlie. :)
ReplyDeleteHope you are doing well after your Lasik surgery.
I am on holiday just now (boiling hot Las Vegas) and only brought the kindle and 2 print books. I haven't heard of any of these but seems like a great wee collection.

I am on a "cover kick" at the moment, and you have so many great ones listed on your blog~! hope your eyes are doing well :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so intrigued by Color of Tea, which I regrettably turned down. The cover has always been alluring to me, and I'm glad it cooperated for its photographic opportunity! :)
ReplyDeleteOh wow, catching up and wanted to say Charlie and the Color of Tea look good. enjoy
ReplyDeleteHoping your eyes are recovering and that you're able to enjoy the summer as much as possible.. I'm kinda in a similar boat having bell's palsy that's affected the one eye that doesn't close as it tires and dries so reading is limited for me as well :)
ReplyDeleteI can't believer there's a book, 'The Color of Tea'!
Def have to get that onto my reading wishlist!
I've been hearing good things about the Bernadette book. Can't wait to see what you think.
