Magpie Tales #112: Virtual Shell

The only way there is to take a shell and float over.
Oh, really.
Yes, you must pass through, not disturb any of the good eggs in your path.
Okay.
Be careful please.
Yes, I will be. How long is the trip?
That depends, it may seem like a long time; take it one day at a time.
I am in a hurry.
Did you have breakfast?
Yes, I had some eggs.
Excellent. (Aren't you glad I didn't say egg-cellent?)
Yes, thank you.
You're welcome, now be on your way.
But my shell, it's. . .
Broken? Cracked?
Yes.
That doesn't matter.
Are you sure?
A virtual shell will never fail you, just GO!
Okay, good-bye!
 Bon voyage!

Magpie Tales #93: Useless

Little red couch
Discarded
Left at curbside
Rejected by AmVets
Too shabby
Too dirty

Little red couch
Dropped at the dump
Homely and unwanted
Useless

Little red couch
Missing cushions
A loveseat
Haven for same sex lovers
Homeless vagrants in need of rest
Stained by Jack Daniels,
Bacardi 151

Little red couch
Under the overpass
Hidden from view

Magpie Tales #54: Puzzleland

She always took things far too literally
looking up words
to learn what they meant.
Though she knew
their words were mere shadows
imprecise, blurry.
Still
why did their words affect her so?
After all
she lived in a puzzleland
comforted only
by her own thoughts.
Briefly
until the next round.

Magpie Tales #52: House Rules

Now that we live in a house, we need to have some rules around here.

House Rules
****************
~Don't bring any mud or dog turd in on your shoes. Take off your shoes so you don't spoil the carpet. Slippers are okay. (This may be hard for "shoe people"--but I hate dingy-looking carpet.)

~If you are the first one up, please get the newspaper and turn on the coffee maker.

~Please make your bed each and every morning. It doesn't have to be perfect--hospital corners aren't required--but it does have to be done.

~Clean the bathrooms once a week, minimum.

~If you leave crumbs on the counter or table, please wipe them up, and hang dishtowels neatly. A tidy kitchen is more appealing than a messy one.

~Don't leave dishes in the sink, unless the dishwasher is running and it's too late to add dishes. (And Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day makes washing dishes by hand almost a pleasure.)

~No smoking. (Sorry, Charles!)

~Should we hire a housekeeper, to help out twice a month? Shelley uses a gal named Sondra.

~If you break something, "fess up"!

~Lights out by 10:30 PM during the week (unless you're reading a Jodi Picoult book).

****************

This is an interactive Mag--please add something to this list of house rules. :)

Magpie Tales #48: I'll Play it Cool

But I can't read music! What good am I as a pianist if I can't even read music? Even though my mom's a piano teacher, I never learned how to read notes, although I can play by ear and memory pretty well. Even Moonlight Sonata. At the recital everyone was spellbound when I played. I didn't just play, I performed! Everyone loved my piece. I can memorize pages and pages of music. I've even composed some tunes. But I wish I knew how to read music. I know, maybe Caitlin can teach me! I want to get closer to her anyway. She's a cutie! All of my friends think she's hot. And she has been playing piano since, like, kindergarten. I'm sure she would teach me. She likes to help people. Like that time she helped a little boy who was looking for his mother at Target and she asked him what his mother looked like. She held his hand and stayed with him until they were together again. (Caitlin told me his mom had tattoos all over her arms and was really upset about losing her kid in the store, and tried to give her five bucks as a reward.) Or that time she gave her sandwich to that nerd with the reddish hair, Michael, who'd left his lunch at home. And maybe after a few lessons I'll ask her out. Even if I don't learn how to read music it will be okay. Should I call her right now? Nah, I'll wait until I see her at school tomorrow or the next day. I don't want to seem too eager. I'll play it cool.

Again, I ask that you be gentle with me if you leave a comment. Go ahead and tell me the truth about my creative writing, which was inspired by the picture above from Tess Kincaid, as this is my second attempt at Magpie Tales. Your comments and constructive criticism are welcomed. Thanks for reading!
