You 're now able to get the Kalorik 4 Slice Toaster you picked out, or something else from CSN. Special thanks to Jamie and CSN for offering this very generous giveaway.

Recently I got an iPhone 4. Slowly but surely, I'm learning how to use it. I've mastered the basics of calling and texting with a touch screen. The iPhone has an excellent camera, and I find myself photographing all kinds of things. The camera is ready to shoot almost instantly. My old phone camera took forever to set up for a photo, and as a result I took very few pictures. This shot I quickly took at Trader Joe's. I wandered into the wine section because a colorful display caught my eye.

Although this housewife looks sophisticated and calm (she could even have a secret identity as a book blogger), the label calls her mad. (Is she mad simmering angry, or mad off her rocker crazy? If she's mad crazy, is it because of her lot in life or because of the wine--or both?)

I have a few, select applications or "apps" on my iPhone, including Dictionary.com, which features a word of the day. Here are a couple of words that I recently discovered on this app.

hypnagogic
: inducing sleep; of our pertaining to drowsiness
Does this post have a hypnagogic effect on you, dear reader?

puckish: whimsical, mischievous, impish
My Really Random Tuesday posts tend to be puckish.
I love this word and hope to use it in conversation soon (hopefully I will be understood).

In the future, I may use words from this app for Bermudaonion's Wondrous Words Wednesday. Another really fun app is Scrabble. I can play to my heart's content on my iPhone. I had this app on my iPod touch but the graphics are sharper on the iPhone. Scrabble is a wonderful way to pass the time when you're waiting for someone or for some event to start. I feel a bit geekish at times sitting and staring into my phone, moving around letter tiles, but it is so much fun, and being a word nerd isn't the worst thing in the world.

  6. I got the iPhone 4 last week as did my daughter and her partner, and we tried the face to face call which made me look dreadful IMO. I think I am too old to be displaying my mugshot on other peoples phones...LOL

I love the camera though. It is so much better than the one on the iPhone 3.

  7. Wow, I am so happy and grateful to win the CSN gift certificate. We do need a new toaster, but the hubby wants to look around first to see if there is anything else (we will probably get that toaster anyways). Thanks for congrats.

  8. My husband has the iPhone 4, and just drools over all the things he can so with it. I still just have the 3, and while I love it, I think I would really love the 4 a little bit more. There are some great apps out there too. I love Angry Birds and can waste a whole lot of time on that!

Also, I have seen the Angry Housewife wine at the store, and have wondered if a purchase is in order!

  9. I feel like such a dinosaur with my old Razr phone... but I have one of the later model ones that actually works and I know how to use it!

Weird wine labels are so much fun. I should know better but I've bought more than a few bottles with a cute label. These were at wine tastings so at least I knew it was drinkable.

  10. I don't mean to sound greedy or overly acquisitive, but I think the iPhone 5 is due out this summer. Five is my lucky number. ;)

Thanks for all the comments. More welcomed, of course.

lucky you! I want a new ITouch. I'm very behind the times...I still have my outdated Itouch. Its the first version they came out with, so its pretty antiquated. No photos or anything cool I cant even figure out how to use WiFi. I just play angry birds on it.
lol...I was at Trader Joes yesterday, I didnt see the wine. I like that label :)

  14. I bought an iPod Touch last year, and I absolutely love it. It's so handy to have music, Internet, and half a dozen other necessities all within reach of my pocket. The Dictionary app is one of my most used apps too!

  15. Thanks for an interesting and informative post, it certainly hasn't left me hypnagogic, a bit puckish maybe but certainly not hypnagogic.

Actually its funny you including some definitions today as I've just been reading an article on words to be added to the Oxford English dictionary and I'm soooooo annoyed at what has been included but more of that in a post I'm yet to write.
    Have a great week-end.
