Mailbox Monday

It's a wonderful life!  For the month of December, I'm pleased and honored to be the host of Mailbox Monday, a meme created by Marcia from the Mailbox Monday blog.  Mailbox Monday has been on tour for the past few years.  It's a grown-up version of "show and tell", an enjoyable way to share our excitement over the new books that have landed in our mailboxes, or that we've acquired in other ways.  For many of us, every day feels like Christmas, because a lot of books arrive in the mail, from authors, agents, publishers, and other book bloggers.

Last week, I received three books in the mail.  Perhaps that's not a lot by "book blogger standards", but it's plenty for me. :)  I received two copies of 7 Years Younger by the editors of Good Housekeeping from Bostick Communications.  I'll be hosting a giveaway for my extra copy (I may be seven years younger by then) and possibly mentioning a spa giveaway as well, so please stay tuned.  I won The Gilded Lily by Deborah Swift on Darlene's blog, Peeking Between the Pages

Mailbox Monday is the only meme I know of that comes with a warning: "Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists."   This warning rings true for me in regards to my toppling TBR piles--my books runneth over!  My bedroom started to look very cluttered with stacks of books on top of other, more organized books.  I ordered this bookcase online, after a fruitless search around town for a small, low bookcase that would fit under a window.  After it arrived in the mail, I donned my carpenter hat, assembled it, and moved it downstairs.  Although this bookcase doesn't hold a great number of books, it does help a bit (and now I won't feel as guilty getting more books in the mail).

What books (or book-related items) arrived in your home recently, by mail or by other means?  Please leave a comment after linking. Thank you!

  1. Hi Suko,

I really like the sound of 'The Gilded Lily', although the author is new to me. The cover image displayed by Amazon when I clicked on your link, is in my opinion, much the more alluring of the two, what did you think? Any book won, is an added bonus and always very welcome though isn't it? you can't help but get a good feeling about it.

Your bookcase is looking good and you still have just a little space left for a few more books, which I am sure you will amply have filled by the end of your stint as 'Mailbox Monday' host!

Thanks for the great book recommendation and for hosting during this busy month.

    1. Yvonne, thanks for participating in Mailbox Monday and for your detailed comment! :)

I don't have a strong preference for either cover. After I filled this little bookcase, I put numerous books in boxes because I simply couldn't fit them elsewhere. It's probably time to donate some of my books.

  4. Nice bookcase. Every time I add a new one it instantly fills with books.

I received the 7 Years Younger books too and am hoping to look, and more importantly, feel, 7 years younger asap!

    1. I do love your new bookcase. It would be great to put a few plants on in front of the window as well.

    2. Diane, a plant or two on top of the bookcase is a wonderful idea, as long as I'm careful about watering. :) (I had a couple of items on the bookcase, but I took them off because they didn't photograph well.)

  17. Great looking books! I had to do the same thing for my TBRs...get a shelf for the bedroom...and then another one for the office.

  19. Ah, the dreaded piles of books - taller than my five foot three inches, I now can't reach the top of mine. Shelves would be great but alas there is no room.

Anyway, great selection of books, The Gilded Lily looks great.

  21. I'm anxious to read The Gilded Lily too. Not sure about 7 Years Younger? If I followed the plan and looked 7 years younger, would I have to act 7 years younger, would I have to go back to work, would I have to relive the last 7 years??? HHMMMMM??? MY POST IS HERE

  22. I love that small bookcase, and you are not only a reader, but a carpenter as well. The Gilded Lady looks like an interesting book. As far as my looking 7 years younger, I don't think so...

Suko, I am so sorry the first linky thingy I tried came out wrong, I got it right the second time. It seems I always get those linky thingys wrong. Sorry.

  26. Nice bookcase! The Gilded Lily sounds good. I'll try to join your Mailbox Monday next week. Since I basically just get freebies for my e-readers, I didn't keep track of what I got last week. I will this week, though.

  27. I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels guilty about the piles of books everywhere around my house. I'm running out of room! My large bookcase in my bedroom is double stacked with piles on top and next to it. I've been holding back on accepting new review requests in an attempt to "try" to catch up a bit. This past week I did receive a copy of a Georgette Heyer by Jennifer Kloester. I love Georgette Heyer and could not resist. I'll be hosting an author guest blog and giveaway for it in January :-)

  28. Oh man, that little book case wouldn't hold all the books that I've gotten over the last few months! I am overwhelmed by the reading material, and no time to read it! It's funny how fast they come in. Enjoy your wins and your new bookcase over there, my friend!

  29. Enjoy your books. I like the new bookcase. Sometimes a small one just fits where you need it to.

  30. My books arrived via my going Christmas shopping and getting myself a couple items while shopping for others!! Audio version of Jo Nesbo's The Snowman found on sale, in preparation for driving by myself from Louisiana to Virginia for Christmas. The second for me: The Tipping Point, by Malcolm Gladwell. I do a lot of volunteer work in my historic neighborhood and I'm interested in how we might reach a "tipping point" in some of our endeavors. I have so many books in my llbrary on TBR list that I could be locked in my house for years and not run out of books to read!

  31. Love the bookcase. I have a spot in my house that would be perfect for one that size. Thanks for hosting Mailbox Monday!

  32. It's funny how some weeks there are a few books in my box, and others there are none. I'm actually getting to prefer the later so I don't feel so overwhelmed in what I'm 'required' to review. The 7 Years Younger looks fun!

  33. That's a nice looking bookcase, Suko. I have a small one like it but wish it had more shelves! Most of my bookshelves are downstairs too.

  36. Thanks for all the comments! More are welcomed of course. Your comments are definitely contributions to this post.

My new little bookcase doesn't really make a dent in my TBR stacks, but it did impel me to put many books in boxes and clear out some of the clutter!

I've enjoyed hosting Mailbox Monday and look forward to next week's meme.

    Enjoy those new books. ;-)
