Really Random Tuesday #83: The Joy of Instagram, and an Amazon Gift Card Winner

My kids are probably sick of hearing me say that I'm enjoying Instagram, because it's been hard to contain my excitement.  I signed up for an account last Thursday, and I must say that it's been a lot of fun.  I take a picture on my phone, post it, and get a few likes.  It's very quick and easy.  I've learned to use hash tags.  You can add filters to your photos or use them as is.  I like that it's all done on my iPhone.  I don't need to use my computer (although you can view the photos larger on a computer).  I didn't expect Instagram to be so user friendly and so much fun.

I Googled Instagram and learned a few facts from BuzzFeed:

  • Instagram was founded in 2010 by two Stanford graduates, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger.
  • As of 2014, 16 billion photos have been uploaded on Instagram.
  • The U.S., Japan, and Brazil have the most users.
  • Justin Bieber is the most followed person on Instagram.
  • Facebook purchased Instagram in 2012 for $1 billion in cash and stocks.

Please help me to congratulate Mary from Bookfan, the winner of the $25 Amazon gift card.  Congratulations, Mary!  Mary mentioned that she'd look for some older books still in print by Liza Palmer (an author I'm now interested in) if she won the gift card.  $25 is not a great deal of money to spend on books, but you can often find good deals on new and used books on Amazon.

If you didn't win this time, don't be discouraged!  I have other giveaways listed on the right side of my blog, and I host new giveaways frequently.  My followers each get an extra entry in my giveaways if they mention their status in the comments.  :)

Appearing on random Tuesdays, Really Random Tuesday is a way to post odds and ends--announcements, musings, quotes, photos--any blogging and book-related things you can think of. I often announce my book giveaway winners in these posts. If you have miscellaneous book news to gather up and are inspired by this idea, "grab" the button for use on your own blog, and add your link to the "master" Mister Linky on the Really Random Tuesday page.

Have a terrific Tuesday!  Your comments are always welcomed.

Re: Instagram - I love it for all the reasons you mentioned, not the least being how user-friendly it is. The filters are great too.

  2. I have Instagram but don't use it as much as some people. I just can't keep up with everything. It is a great app, though.

    Congratulations to Mary!

  5. I have just signed up for Instagram but have not gone any further. It looks like a lot of fun and neat form of social media.

Tome is my biggest enemy with these things :)

Instagram is the one thing I haven't signed up for. It sounds like fun though.

  7. Congratulations to Mary!
I do not have an Instagram account. It sounds great though. It's interesting that Facebook purchased it. I had stored my photos on my old desk top with Photoshop, but since we may get rid of the desk top, I need a new photo strategy.

  8. Congratulations to Mary!

I'm just starting to learn how to use Instagram.

I planned on posting RRT on my blog, but the server was down all week and my blog wouldn't load. Thankfully it came back up yesterday.

  9. *Yay* for Instagram! Isn't it fun? My kids make fun of me, but I don't care. I post just about every day.

  11. I can see that Instagram would be addicting/fun, but there's no way I can add one more piece of technology to my life without going bananas. My recent trip to Wisconsin showed me that I relish (and require) more peace than I allow myself. I'm not even on Twitter or Facebook as I "should" be. At any rate, I'm glad we're still keeping up with our blogs, Suko, and you are a very faithful and sweet commenter. Kisses to you, Bellezza

  12. I only jumped onto the instagram bandwagon because of my daughter-in-law and I'm surprised by how it encourages me to take a photo to commemorate even the small moments.
